Reporting a figure that looks wrong

This is the most useful thing anyone sends, and it gets read. The site exists to be right, and the people most likely to spot an error are the ones holding a payslip from the state in question.

What helps most, in rough order:

  • The state and the salary you entered, so the figure can be reproduced.
  • What the page said and what you expected instead.
  • If you have it, the state document or payslip line you are comparing against. A link to a state publication settles almost anything.

You do not need all of that. "Ohio looks about three hundred dollars light" is a perfectly good report and has been enough before.

What will not be answered

Questions about your own tax position, what you should withhold, or whether to take a particular job. Those need somebody who can see your circumstances and who is qualified to advise on them, and that is not this site. See the terms of use on why.

How each figure can be checked without asking

Every state page names the document its figures came from and the date it was last checked, and links to it. If a figure looks wrong, that link is usually faster than an email, and if the document disagrees with the page then the page is wrong and worth reporting.
